Why baptism?

  • Baptism is a significant step in your faith journey and instructed by Jesus if you are going to follow him and be his disciple (Matt. 28:18-20).

  • Baptism doesn’t save you; Jesus saves you. It is by God’s grace that we are saved through our faith (Eph. 2:8-9). And Jesus expects all his followers to get baptized as an outward expression of the inward reality that he is our Savior (saves us from our sin) and Lord (the master and leader of our life) (Matt. 28:19-20).

  • Baptism symbolizes the transformation Jesus brings in your life. As you go under water, it symbolizes dying to your old life of sin, and as you rise out of the water, it symbolizes your new life in Jesus (Romans 6:1-14).

Who should get baptized?

  • Anyone who is repentant of their sin and trusts Jesus to be their Savior and Lord should get baptized as a public declaration of their faith in Jesus.

  • What if I was baptized as an infant?

    • This is a great question. Your parents did their best based on the information they had, and by baptizing you, they expressed their desire for you to grow up in faith. We encourage you to get baptized as an expression of your faith in Jesus as this is the pattern we see in the New Testament.

  • We do not baptize babies because baptism is connected with a personal decision to follow Jesus. However, if you would like to express your desire for your son or daughter to grow up in faith and invite the church alongside you in the process, we encourage you to dedicate your child at one of our Child Dedications.

How do I get baptized?

  • Anyone who is following Jesus and has been baptized themselves can baptize you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19-20).

  • You can also be baptized anytime and anywhere there is water (Acts 8:36-38).

  • When you get baptized, God uses the expression of your faith to build others’ faith (both those who know Jesus and those who don’t yet know him), so would you consider getting baptized in conjunction with one of our worship gatherings?
